Re: New - RBR850 / RBS850 Firmware Version v4.6.7.13 Official Release

I have the RBR850 and RBS850.
- Current firmware: 4.6.3.16
- The system is in AP mode
- In one specific room, everyone's MAC laptops keep dropping internet and 2mins later they'll reconnect. The wifi is connected but says "no internet available" on the MAC wifi settings.
- These devices are connected to the Satellite
- Wifi signal strength and Mbps connection speed in this room with the Satellite are really good
- When I go to the web UI it says I'm on the latest firmware but obviously from this thread that isn't that case

Would you agree I should manually update my hardware?

Right now I've completely disconnected the Satellite, and changed the Router Orbi back to Router Mode as it sounds like my current firmware has issues when in AP mode.

Happy for some recommendations.
  • I'd go with router mode if it's seeing good uptime there.

  • What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What are you using for the main host router for the Orbi in AP mode?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS📡 to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

What channels are you using? Auto? Try Auto and 48 on 5Ghz. Or try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set CTS to 2347. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s). Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

      - Modem = DrayTek Vigor2865

      - Internet = TPG here in Australia

      - Modem is connected into a Cisco Business 250 Series Switch. The Orbi Router is connected to a port on the switch via ethernet. So too is the Orbi Satellite.

What are you using for the main host router for the Orbi in AP mode?

      - Not too sure what you mean by this, but it's the RBR850 that I have in AP mode (connected to the Switch) as I wanted the Modem (DrayTek) to manage all rules for devices

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?

      - About 1,000 Sq Ft

      - Yep, pretty much 32 feet from the router to the satellite (as of my original post, I have completely disconnected the Satellite as I wondered if the two were conflicting too much)

What channels are you using? Auto? Try Auto and 48 on 5Ghz. Or try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.

      - 2.4Ghz is on auto

      - 5Ghz is on 48. I don't have an auto setting in the drop down, only 36, 40, 44, 48
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

      - It is quite busy, around 15 other SSIDS I can see

Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set CTS to 2347. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s). Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

      - I can only unitck an option "Enable 20/40 MHz Coexistence". Does unticking it set it to 40Mhz only?

I am wanting to try and have the Router by itself with the current settings but have turned off AP mode currently. If I get drops today I will change the CTS settings and turn off the "Enable Coesistence" stick box as well.

Let me know if you see any issues with the above.

        - Yep, pretty much 32 feet from the router to the satellite (as of my original post, I have completely disconnected the Satellite as I wondered if the two were conflicting too much)< Ya for a 1000ft home, the RBR alone can cover this area. I don't think you'll need the RBS. You could turn down the power on the RBR from 100% to say 25%, then use the RBS. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

        - 5Ghz is on 48. I don't have an auto setting in the drop down, only 36, 40, 44, 48 < Try channel 40 if 48 doesn't work.
