Stuck at no internet connection

I’ve been trying to help my dad set up his Orbi system but I keep getting stuck at the exact same point. The model number, I believe, is RBK652S, but I may well be looking at the wrong thing. On the advanced setup page it talks about checking that your wifi IP address is the right kind and I did and it is, and I know that the Ethernet ports on the modem work otherwise. The orbits router just absolutely refuses to connect at this point. Any thoughts?

    That is an Orbi model:

Can you explain a bit more exactly what that pont is?

    Is the issue

    • connecting to the Orbi wifi?
    • getting access to the internet when just the router is installed?
    • connecting the satellite?

Are you using the orbi app, or are you using your web browser for setup?

Yes. I double-checked that it was DHCP, because that’s the type the app says should be able to connect automatically.

  • A few things commonly cause this with Orbi setups, especially if you're stuck at the "No Internet Connection" stage:

Power cycle everything: Unplug the modem and Orbi router. Wait 2–3 minutes. Power on the modem first and let it fully connect to the ISP. Then power on the Orbi router.

Check the Ethernet connection: Make sure the modem is connected to the Orbi's Internet/WAN port (usually the yellow port), not one of the LAN ports.

Modem lock-in: Some ISPs lock the connection to the first device they see. If you previously had another router connected, a full modem reboot is often required before it will recognize the Orbi.

Bypass the app: Try accessing the Orbi setup page from a browser and check whether the Internet/WAN IP address is being assigned. If the WAN IP shows 0.0.0.0, the Orbi isn't getting an address from the modem.

ISP requirements: Some providers require PPPoE credentials, VLAN settings, or MAC address registration. If your previous router needed any special settings, you'll need to enter them in the Orbi.

Factory reset: If this is a used or previously configured system, perform a factory reset and start the setup from scratch.

    A couple of questions:

What is the make/model of the modem?

Does the Orbi Internet LED show a specific color (amber, magenta, etc.)?

Is the modem a standalone modem or a modem/router combo?

Those details will help narrow down the cause.

This was the first thing I tried, since it was what the app suggested.

I know this for a fact because the first time I went to set it up, I had the satellite instead of the router, so I know that once I had figured them out and switched them back, I was using the correct (yellow) port.

There have never been any other additional devices like this on this wifi network.

This I will try next time I'm there.

This was the second thing the app suggested, which is why I checked that my network was DCHP, not PPPoE or static.

The model is completely brand new. I took it out of the box myself.

Another commenter further up was able to correctly identify it as this model.

I believe at this stage in the process it is white. Throughout the beginning the lights did everything the app said they should be doing, blinking when they were supposed to, being the right color, all that. And the light doesn't change color when the app announces that it wasn't able to connect.

It is a combo, cox panoramic to be specific. I saw in other discussions that those can be extra finicky, but didn't see any concrete fixes for that.
