Troubleshooting set up for a WiFi-based camera with RBR840 Mesh

I am trying to set up a WiFi-based doorbell and am getting the following error message: 'Mismatched WiFi Networks. Please ensure that the G4 Professional doorbell is using the same network the Dream Machine Special Edition is Managing'. The Dream Machine Special Edition is a UniFi cloud gateway. I connected it with an ethernet cord directly to my Orbi router. The doorbell product is also a UniFi product. I tried switching my router to 2.4 GHz only and also tried switching to AP mode. No luck with either.

I was able to set up a PoE-based camera using my system without difficulty. What is interesting is that I could see the WiFi-based doorbell was recognized on my Orbi system, but do not see the Dream Machine as a listed/attached device on the Orbi system.

I wonder if this has to do with the Orbi system and a setting that needs to be adjusted. For example could the Dream Machine be connecting to the Orbi network that is used for the initial setup of the Orbi system?? Thanks for any advice.

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?

Are you setting up this device on the separate IoT network SSID on the Orbi system?

Something to contact the mfr of this device since its there product.

I am not trying to set this up on a separate IoT network SSID on the Orbi system, but I do wonder whether one device is connecting to a different SSID than the other device. Any advice how to check this?

  • The UniFi Dream Machine is designed to be the heart of a UniFi network, not something added to an exiting WiFi router:

Click on Deployment and scroll down to see the diagram.

All sorts of UniFi products can be managed by software running on this "Cloud Gateway".  It cannot manage a Netgear WiFi router.

My sense is that this effort is doomed.  Either commit to a residential WiFi router platform, such as the Netgear, or commit to the UnfiFi platform, but do not attempt to mix them.

    (just my two cents)
