Unable to set up iinet (IP provider) PPPoE connection to NBN modem

Hi All,

First note that my Orbi is actually a RBK753 which product type wasn't a pick option.

I just got my NBN fibre modem (G-240G-P) connected and was wanting to connect my mesh router direct rather than via the IINET standard NBN modem in the middle. I had my Orbis connected on the old system and so did a hard reset.

I am good connecting to the Orbi until the point where the Orbi needs to connect to the internet. I make the connection type PPPoE, enter my ISP username and as they tell me any random password. The Orbi install app then mentions it is changing the connection type and then it loops back to look for the internet again. I never make it past this point. It is a continual loop then and I can't see any means to change configuration settings on the Orbi (though I don't know what they would need to be). The handshaking between the NBN modem and my Orbi router never seem to lineup.

I did to a firmware on the Orbi system before I shut it down to connect to the NBN fibre modem.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • I did dig into more yesterday with success. The application keeps looping and will never find internet. i can only change rudimentary internet settings (pppoe, user name and password). My ISP wants me to specify the VLAN bridge to 2.

When the application stated endlessly cycling I logged onto my  orbi router with my laptop. With the laptop I was offered more internet settings than the app gives. When I set the VLAN bridge up properly everything started working.

FURRYe38, thank you for taking the time to have a look at my issue

  • What Fw version is loaded on the system?

Have you tried setting up the PPPoE configuration on the RBR using the RBRs web page?

No I haven't yet tried setting up PPPoE via the RBR. I was locked in the setting up the Orbi system on the app.

What i plan on doing is completing my setup with Orbi connected to the IINET modem and when setup is complete i will then configure PPPoE via the RBR webpage and attempt to remove the IINET modem and plug Orbi directly into the NBN modem.

Maybe some odd Orbi app issue. Please try the RBR web page to set up PPPoE. Be sure you get with the ISP for any additional PPPoE configurations and required services there.
