Using Orbi RBK852 with DrayTek Vigor 130 modem for IPTV (BT TV)

Hi Everyone,

I've just purchased an RBK852 2 pack and want to connect it to a DrayTek Vigor 130 modem. I have the router connected currrently to the BT Home Hub 5 (with wireless turned off) at the moment and all seems to be good. The model arrives today, so I've not yet tried to connect it up. I'm concerned that when I do, I'm going to lose BT TV IPTV functionality/connections.

I have Lifx smart lighting to reconnect, as well as a smart security alarm made by Yale.

All of the forums I've read seem to suggest I need to set up multicasting by changing the IGMP proxy settings on the modem, and that this will also require a change to the Orbi AX6000 settings too.

Has anyone got any experince of this and if so, can you advise me on the settings I need to change, and how to access them please?

I'm a nove at this so please keep it simple and explain any acronyms if you can ;-)

Matthew

  • I would ask your ISP if there services required the use of there router or not. Having two routers on the same line can cause problems.

This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

    Couple of options,
    1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
    2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
    3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

Thanks - I'll try that. I don't intend having two routers in the setup. The plan is to replace my unreliable Home Hub 5 with the DrayTek Vigor 130 modem.

Most of the information I've seen states that I need to set the router to 'router' mode, or change the IMGP Proxy. I've no idea how to do either of those things with the AX6000 so any information you have on how to do that would also be great.

Only thing you can do is enable or disable IGMP Proxy on the RBR. Under Advanced Tab/Setup/WAN Setup.
