It is a 10 Mbit/s half-duplex issue
It is a 10 Mbit/s half-duplex issue; I had the same problem with the tado internet bridge. The only way I could get it to work was to use a network switch instead of connecting directly to the RBE971, which also started having problems again, so I ended up upgrading to the tado X, which uses Wi-Fi instead.

Just curious, this 10Mbps device, have you connected this devices to all LAN ports behind the RBR to check to see if any of the LAN ports fails to let the device connect?

I tried everything before replacing my thermostat and internet bridge, including testing every port on the router and satellite, but while the Tado internet bridge cloud indicator light would flash on startup or when connecting to the network, it would then proceed to go off and fail to work; I reset it via the app and the pinhole reset with the same outcome. Then, when I plugged it into my main switch, it worked intermittently; the only way I could get it to work without issue was to use an older unmanaged switch, but I did not want to have one device connected to a separate switch, which is why I ended up just buying a new one that has continued to work flawlessly since.

I can confirm with Orb BE series systems, that ethernet ports no longer seem to support 10Mpbs connections. 100 and above seems to be support. I reported this to NG. Not sure if they will fix it. There spec sheets say 10Mpbs is supported on both RBR and RBS.
For now I've put a 1Gb non managed switch GS series in between the RBR and RBR were 10Mpbs is needed and works around this.

Both 100Mbps half- and full duplex? Checked against both 10 Mbps half- and 10 Mbps full-duplex? All these are often a hit-and-miss at best in automatic negotiation on such MultiGig and 10 Gig ports.

Appears the Ethernet ports on "modern" (and fast) routers, network devices like Mesh satellites, does fail on the auto negotiation on 10Mbps half-duplex only devices like the tado Internet Bridge - and probably also on 10 Mbps full-duplex, 100 Mbps half- and full duplex devices.
Many popular ISP provided modern and fast routers (Salt Fiber, BT Hub, Sky Q Hub, Virgin Media, and EE Smart Hub routers for example) are affected, too:
The workaround suggested is deplyoing an unmanaged network switch: "if you’re still having issues, consider buying a 100/10 Mbit/s network switch"
By rule of thumb, all Netgear switches with Gigabit ports can be configured to 10 Mbps-half. For example GS108EPP:
This does not apply to the MultiGig and 10 GbE models - very similar to the Orbi 8 and Orbi 9 Series - where both auto and manual (where avaiulable) config is limited to 100M Full, 1G Full, 2.5G Full:
Very useful information, thank you JJG1992 !
