orbi 770 connections issues + a strange ssid
Hi everyone, sorry i dont speak well english so i used chat gpt to translate and make the sentence more understandable
I recently upgraded from the Orbi 760 to the Orbi 770, and I’m facing some frustrating issues. The 760 worked fine for me (aside from not having the IoT SSID, ¨very frustrating ), but with the 770, I’ve been having a few problems.
First, my iPad started asking me to connect to a network that looked very similar to mine. After some digging, I found out that the SSID "NTGRBH" was broadcasting the MAC address, which I’m not comfortable with. Is this normal?
I’ve also been having frequent Wi-Fi drops, which seem random, and videos on social app don’t load or buffer for a long time (sometimes depending on the day). These issues didn’t happen with the 760.
I’ve reset the router a few times, but the problems persist. The French support team I contacted wasn’t very helpful—they don’t seem aware of this issue, though I found some mentions of it in English online.
What can I do to fix this? I’m not very tech-savvy, so I might not fully understand the technical details. Should I just go back to my old Orbi 760? (buy one again) I’m worried it might not get updates anymore, and it doesn’t have the IoT SSID important to me, but at least it worked better for me.
Also, I haven’t set up the satellite because I didn’t think it was necessary, but the Wi-Fi signal in my room is weaker, and it cuts out quite often compared to the 760.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the NETGEAR Community!
I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with your OrbI 770 Orbi mesh system.
What firmware version is your Orbi 771 currently on?
Best,

hello thank you all for your answers, sorry for the mistakes in the following message i didnt use gpt this time.
i can give you the software version if you can explain me
v10.5.13.1.but sadly i had to return it for the 30 day delay to return it.i know about the ssid. but for the price it bother me that something like that happen and all i can find about is that netgear is aware of this but maybe there will be an update, i can't rely on a "maybe" and i find topic about it from a year ago so... i dont know about the mac thing im not qualified but i hate that we can see it with the ssid, and i had multiple wifi problem like video buffering connexion issue, its just too much. didnt had that with the other model i would have kept it if it was still updated and with the iot ssid thing. what do you guys think i should do now ? get another one ? go back to an older model ? ( if you can help me one that still is updated and has iot ssid)Up to you to keep or return the system.
The BE series is still under some development with new WiFi 7 tech thats still being developed and hasn't really been finalized. So up to users what they want and need. We can only help troubleshoot and help users out were problems arise. The shown SSID doesn't effect anything and doesn't bother operation of the system. Just a visual that I would agree should be hidden. I'm sure at some point, it maybe. it's only a minor inconvenience. NG doesn't give information on when changes will be put in place. Just comes, if and when it does.
If you feel you can try another system, give the Orbi 850 or 960 series a try. Those have hidden BH SSID and work well. My 960 is online currently and working great.
KevinLiT is exactly correct. what firmware version are you on?
some of the older/pre-release versions did have the mac broadcast with the ssid. That was pretty quickly fixed. The "NTGRBH" is normal for BE series and will be seen. It's not hidden and is secure and not accessbile. Its only the wireless backhaul signal between the RBR and RBS. NG is aware of it and no idea IF or when they will make it hidden.
