Orbi RBE770 Backhaul
Hi All,
I just installed a new RBE770 system with 3 satellites, and everything has gone well.
The issue I have is Ethernet Backhaul.
If I connect a satellite directly to the Base Router, the satellite appears in wired mode. However, when I relocate the satellite to my garage and plug in the Ethernet cable in the garage, it switches back to 5G.
I've pressed the Sync button on the satellite when it is in the garage but nothing changes.
I know the Ethernet cable works because I can plug in a laptop to it and I get an internet connection.
The method of connection goes:
- Internet is connected to the Base Router on the Internet socket.
- The router connects to an unmanaged switch.
- Satellite connects to the same unmanaged switch.
If I connect the cable going into the unmanaged switch (from the satellite in the garage) it switches to wired so my guess is it's something to do with the unmanagaed switch!! As to what though, I don't know. Do I need a different switch?
How do I get this connection to stay as a wired backhaul connection and not switch back to wireless?
Thanks

My first question is whether you actually need to. Are you getting reasonable wifi performance in the garage?
I have sometimes had similar issues getting the wired backhaul to be used consistently (though I don't own the 770). But the backhaul performance with my 870 is good enough that I didn't worry about it.

I'm not sure how you are reconnecting it. Are you saying that it works when you connect the RBR and RBS directly to each other (and not through the switch)?
The LAN ports on on the 770 are 2.5 gbps. Are you using a gigabit switch? Also, are you using cat 6a cabling?

Would be an issue of something in between the RBR and the garage causing a problem.
What brand and model # is this non managed switch?
CAT6A STP cabling is recommended.
