Disney+ buffering

I just received a new Verizon FIOS router (CR1000a) as my other one was quite old. I've hooked it up and everything seems fine with the exception for Disney+. It's constantly buffering. The FIOS TV service, YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Prime video all work fine.

I did some digging around and discovered that when Disney+ is streaming, the WAN connection starts to drop/reconnect every few seconds.

Things I've done to fix this issue:

- Reboot TV

- Reboot NG router

- Reboot Verizon router

- Make sure everything is at the latest firmware version

- Reinstalled the Disney+ app.

Physical configuration:

- Ethernet from ONT to WAN port of Verizon Router

- Coax connected to Verizon router

- Ethernet from Verizon LAN port to WAN port of NG router

- Ethernet from NG router LAN port to TV (LG C1 - 100GB port)

I did a couple speed tests from:

- NG router: ~900 down and up

- iPhone connected to  NG router: ~650/240

- TV: ~90 down and up

Does anyone know if there's some sort of setting that needs to be set on the Verizon/NG router to prevent this network dropping? Again, it ONLY happens when streaming Disney+.

  • You are piling router after router. Either set the FIOS router in Bridge mode, or if it's not possible, leave it as is and set the NETGEAR router in Access Point mode. You should only have one router doing the work. Router after router creates a double NAT situation with two different networks that can't talk to each other, causing all sorts of problems and headaches.

I was doubtful that a double NAT situation was the cause of the problem, but I went and set my NG router as an access point.

That didn't fix Disney+ from buffering. Everything else on my network works fine. The other streaming services work fine as well. But as soon as I try to play some content on Disney+, the WAN port on my NG router disconnects. It reconnects in about 5-8 seconds, then disconnects again. Does this over and over.

Here's my network setup. Verizon router has WiFi enabled with the default network name. There's an ethernet cable from that to my RAX80. It's in AP mode. It also has WiFi enabled using a different SSID. My TV is hardwired to the RAX80 on port 1.

      Any other ideas?

I tried switching the TV from ethernet to WiFi connection, and the Disney+ app seems to stream fine. No buffering.

I'd prefer to have it on ethernet though, so I'd like to switch it back.

What's different between WiFi and ethernet that could cause the WAN link to drop when I strart streaming a Disney video?

  • Have a Windows 10 system (or newer) with an Ethernet LAN connection at hand? The Disney+ App is available for Windows, too. Can't get rid of the idea that face some oddity around or near your LG C1 TV (with a Fast Ethernet 100 Mb/s link). Spotting several reports in the wild Internet with random results, some say everything is fine, just for example YouTube is buffering. Almost convinced using a different system like a small Windows box with just a Fast Ethernet port does not show any buffering. Could be many things going bad, almost impossible to answer.

Indeed. Throw in the different TV makers and confusion is almosy guaranteed.

In my case, I have used Powerline Ethernet  rather than wifi to span the short distance between my router and the "TV" receiver. (I use a computer monitor and set-top boxes to watch things.) I also prefer wired to wifi.

I am  not familiar with Panasonic TVs, but I know that Samsung stuff is famously finicky.
