Nighthawk RAX120v2 firmware: v1.2.8.40 drops at least once a day
I just recently purchased this router a month ago after our very old Nighthawk router died.
Since installing, the Wi-Fi connection drops at least once a day, sometimes multiple times. Lights go out on router and then it restarts pretty quickly but it takes 5-10 minutes for devices to reconnect. I work from home on a wired connection and don’t have issues, but my son who’s streaming games and videos most days lets me know it’s out again. And the streaming services will cut off when I’m watching through wifi.
Never had issues until I installed this router. We’ve had our modem recently replaced since I thought it was the issue since it was old. But still we get Wi-Fi dropping multiple times a day.
I know there’s a beta firmware out, but it seems that’s been out for a while…and people are still having an issue with this, so at what point is Netgear gonna fix this? We’ve used Netgear routers for 25 years and never had this many problems.
I’d love a real solution and not just a beta firmware that still doesn’t fix the problem.

Factory reset and setup from scratch after FW has been process by the router.
- Am1992AspirantI’ve installed the firmware beta, factory reset and set up from scratch, plugged unit directly into a wall outlet instead of a power strip, etc.
Still getting daily reboots.
For a device that costs over $200, it sure does suck. I mean, I should’ve even have to jump through hoops to get this thing to actually run properly.
That firmware beta has been “beta” since October 2022. Exactly when does Netgear feel it’s appropriate to actually try and fix this problem?
I’ve been buying Netgear products for over 15 years but this is about to make me throw it all away and get a different router from a different company. What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended. You sure you installed the beta FW correctly and then factory reset the router and setup from scratch?
What channel configurations are currently set on the router? Basic and Advanced...
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
What other devices are connected to the router? Wired and Wireless?
What are you doing and using thru the router when the reboot happens?
Try disabling the following and see:
