Persistent Issues with Netgear RAX43 5GHz Network and Log Settings

Hello NETGEAR community,

I've been experiencing recurring issues with my NETGEAR Nighthawk RAX43 router, specifically related to the 5GHz wireless network and log settings.

Despite trying various troubleshooting steps, the problems persist. Here's a summary of my situation:

5G Network - 'Obtaining IP Address' Error:

On my 5GHz network, I frequently encounter the "Obtaining IP address" which leads to a loss of                      connection.

   - Steps taken:

         - Analyzed and changed channels.

         - Ensured security settings (WPA2-Personal [AES] + WPA3 Personal).

         - Set a static IP and device MAC reservation on Android 14 device.

         - The issue persists even after these adjustments.

         Log Settings Issue:

         - When attempting to save filtered log file settings, I receive the message "The   connection was reset."

         - Interestingly, after a router reboot, the log settings work temporarily, but the issue recurs.

To my surprise, after the reboot: Router, ONT etc., waiting the allocated time, the 5G network worked seamlessly for 12 hours as did the Log settings allowing me to select and save.

          Mutual Exclusivity or Relationship:

         - Are these two issues mutually exclusive, or could they be related?

         - I've observed that when the 5GHz network fails, the log settings issue also arises.

Then, after 12 hours, 5G again stopped and gave message ‘Obtaining IP address…’ and the following message in the Logs: ‘WLAN access rejected: incorrect security] from MAC address’ and the Log settings can't be saved.

         Recent Change:

         - I changed the security options to WPA3-Personal [SAE], and the 5GHz network has been stable for the               past three hours.

        - However, the log settings issue remains.

        Next Steps:

        - Should I reboot the router every time an issue occurs - very tedious, or is there a better solution?

        - Is there a firmware update on the horizon?

I appreciate any insights or suggestions from the community. Thank you in advance!

What firmware are you on now?

A number is more useful than "the latest". There may be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware with an app or in the browser interface.

If there is one it might also help if you told people the make and model number of the modem/gateway/ONT that connects this router to the Internet. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?

I ask because a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.

      So true.

Point taken - was planning to but forgot.

      Firmware version: V1.0.16.132_2.0.92

      Modem/ONT: raisecom.com

      ISCOM HT803G-1GE (M)

It's not a router doesn't have LAN ports - only one to connect to router

      Thanks for the advice.

             Follow up feedback:

After working seamlessly for 10 hours, it stopped working again.

  • Any progress on this?
