RAX120v2 Newly Disconnecting in Bridge Mode

I picked up a Nighthawk AX12 RAX120v2 to use for a Bridge. I have a few computers in the living room on LAN and I need them to be on Wifi with the main modem/router my ISP provided in another room for internet access. Apartment life, can't be running a cable between the two inconvenient locations.

I picked it up in early June and had no problems through June/July/August. In the last couple weeks I'm suddenly having issues daily and needing to power cycle the bridge. Other machines on Wifi aren't having any issue and rebooting the bridge router tends to resolve it, though not always without a couple reboots of it. It often works for hours with no issue, but other days I have to power cycle it every 15 minutes or less. Really a pain when streaming which seems to be the pattern of when it drops more frequently.

Does anyone have any idea how to trouble shoot to get more information on what's going wrong?

Thanks,
-B

  • Are devices connecting to the RAX120v2 over WiFi? (in addition to the devices that are on LAN?)

      Nope, no device via wifi to the RAX120v2 in bridge mode.

      The apartment setup is approximately:

      Wired devices connected to the RAX120v2 in bridge mode
      * 1 Linux desktop
      * 4 Windows mini-pcs (1 is the TV PC, the other 3 are a mini-lab project)
      * 1 NAS (Linux)

      Wifi devices connecting to the ISP router/modem combo
      * the RAX120v2 in bridge mode
      * 1 Chromebook
      * 2 Macbooks
      * 1 Windows Laptop
      * 2 Android phones

      We've got one Software Engineer and one Graphic Designer who work-from-home so its a bunch of stuff for personal and professional needs.

      Whenever the issue happens, all the wired devices lose internet and none of the other wifi devices lose internet. Rebooting the bridge-router typically resolves it, but sometimes is takes a second reboot cycle for it to come back.

  • When something has worked for three months and suddenly has problems, we usually ask, "what changed?"  Perhaps new firmware on the ISP device?

    Might be worth discovering more information about how these devices "lose internet".

    • Can they still ping other devices connected to the RAX120v2?
    • Can they ping devices connected to the ISP router?  (or be pinged by them?)
