In most marekts Netgear support can't just be called direct, because ther is no support line number published... Where have you located the Netgear support number? Hint: Using Google or the like to find a phone number will hit a Scam "help" rip-off.

This has come up here before. It is something that Costco does with Netgear, but no one in Netgear support seems to know about it.

The last time it happened, I think it took a Netgear moderator to intervene.

But I am not sure that this is relevant here. The question does not seem to be about trying to sort out a problem so much as having a rant. Not much help we can offer there. Sounds like the wrong buying choice.
