RAXE500 IPv6 issues with Zen Internet UK

Firmware Version V1.2.13.100_2.0.54

I'm attempting to setup my router with IPv6 on Zen Internet in the UK. They've provided the following information:

- The WAN interface should use native DHCPv6 (sometimes SLAAC) for the PPPoE interface, if required use the same username and password your router already uses for PPPoE on IPv4 (but this needs to be dual-stack, not dual-session).

- The LAN interface should use prefix delegation (sometimes called DHCP-PD) with DHCPv6 to allocate addresses to your devices.

- Enable "Router Advertisement" (or RA-DVD) if this is available as an option.

- If the router provides an option to obtain the DNS servers automatically, ensure this is selected.

When I attempted to use "Auto Detect" I got 6to4 Tunnel which didn't seem right. I've tried DHCP and it doesn't receive any address. If I use PPPoE and use the same login information, I get appropriate addresses however the prefix is wrong, set as /64 for both WAN and LAN rather than /64 for WAN and /48 for LAN.

Everything 'seems' to work, but the prefix is bugging me. Any ideas on where I'm going wrong?

Current settings in IPv6 area are:

Connection Type: PPPoE

Use the same Login information as IPv4 PPPoE (ticked)

IPv6 Domain Name Servers (DNS) Address (manually set to Cloudflare IPv6 addresses)

LAN Setup

IP Address Assignment: Auto Config

Thanks for your time.

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Which port are you using on the RAXE for the connection to the ISP modem/ONT? Yellow internet port or the multi gig port?

Check the router logs for any IPv6 errors there.

    Does the DHCP/6to4 work?

Contact the ISP and have them help you configure the IPv6 settings.

Be sure to test IPv6 configuration with IPv6 testing sites:

    What should it be?

Not all Netgear routers support the IPv6 implementation that BT, for example, uses in the UK.

The 6to4 tunnel didn’t use the correct IPv6 block I was assigned and failed on the IPv6 test site.

It’s passing the tests with my current setup but as I said the prefix being handed out is wrong.

ONT I think is Nokia, using the multi-gig port.

Zen have said they can’t really assist with setup apart from the information they sent over.

There a model# of the Nokia?

Others have posted having issues on this version of FW. We've passed this onto NG for review as well. I'd revert to previous version of FW, factory reset the router and setup from scratch and then try DHCP IPv6 again. If this fails, you'll need to open up a support ticket with NG support.
