Which "the app"?  Which firmware version?

Perhaps "the app" hasn't read the relevant KB article:

Even if "the app" were correct, there's approximately nothing which
    you could do about it.

Not much meat on that bone.

(Try to ignore the obvious labeling errors on some of the links.
    Netgear does.)

I apologize.  Child abuse was the furthest thing from my intention.
I simply failed to appreciate the danger.

Unfortunately your with Spectrum and there one of or thee worst in user owned modem support. Most of the time they will not update user owned modem FW. ISPs have this choice as well.

    First things to check though:

Please post a copy and paste of the modems connection status page.
Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem. Be sure the ISP provisions the modem correctly. They are responsible for this much.

Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.

If after all this, the modem doesn't work well and the ISP will not push any FW to the modem, and if there is no other ISP service company available in your area, I would go with a ISP provided modem, ask for a modem only unit if possible, then let them maintain it, then connect a external wifi router system to the modem. You'll have control over the wifi router system and can update it as you need to.
