C3000 HFC?
My installer wants an HFC MAC, which this unit lacks. It works fine on existing Comcast cable (haven't gone past paywall) but I'm trying to cut cord and go on free condo complex system. What do I tel...
Sorry, but no, he specifically needs an HFC MAC address (or thinks he does). I'd like some support for the idea that the MAC address of the unit is all he needs. He's reluctant to try it with the MAC address alone. (This is a non-professional volunteer installer for the condo complex and I can't really push him).
Sorry, but yes, the MAC address printed on the label is MAC address for the coax connection. BTW, HFC stands for Hybrid Fiber Coax. It refers to how the cable provider's network is built (a mix of fiber and coax technologies). It's really irrelevant as far as you are concerned. You get your Internet service through coax. Therefore, you give your modem's MAC address to the installer and that's what he is supposed to use. That's all that matters. It's a little puzzling why your installer is reluctant to use it, but you did say he's not a professional.
