C6300 my hp windows 7 wont connect wirelessly

I have a new c6300 modem router and I am having issues connecting to it wirelessly with my hp windows 7. It keeps saying my security settings do not match. I have verified everywhere that I know how to and it seems to match. I have even ran the troubleshooting tool and it says it cant fix automatically. I can however connect to the wifi via other computers that are windows 7 and vista as well as my tablets and smartphones. I also am able to connect to my hp windows 7 via ethernet but I am needing to connect wirelessly. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

  • Perhaps your HP machine is caching an old Wi-Fi password.  You can force the computer to forget the Wi-Fi network.  I no longer have a Windows 7 in my house, but I believe you can do this by either left or right clicking on the Wi-Fi icon at the bottom right, in the Notification area.  Oh, I just Googled it.  Open Network and Sharing Control panel and click Manage wireless networks.  Select your Wi-Fi network and click Remove.

After you succeed in getting the computer to forget the Wi-Fi network, proceed to join it again.  You should be prompted to enter the password.
