I am not a computer engineer, but my son is. My ISP is small and says they don't have the ability to upgrade firmware. Netgear promised to send me a replacement with upgraded firmware (to .23 release, from .15) but what they sent me STILL has the old firmware, still has problems with intermittent wifi dropping of signals. I have spent HOURS today, trying to trouble shoot--hours on the phone with Netgear who now says their "new" modem-router does not come with suport! Netgear wanted me to pay $49, after they'd kept me on hold. They promised again to send a new modem-router, this time with the updated firmware, but the promised email, detailing their agreement never came. I am at my wit's end. If I'm to throw out this $200 piece of equipment, what IS a reliable modem AND router, or modem router? I just don't have the expertise and patience to keep dealing with this kind on NON-customer support!

I can also attest that using a electirical timer to power off the router once per day works.
This is considered a COLD REBOOT because you are removing power from the unit.
It is finally what I had to do and things seem to be fine most of the time.
There are still occasions when I need to do a manual REBOOT.
For a manual REBOOT you want to login to the router and do a "REBOOT" not a reset.
This is considered a WARM REBOOT because power is never actually removed from the unit.
A reset would reset the modem to factory defaults which may not be what you want.
My router has the .23 firmware but I have not removed the timer yet. This will be something I will try one day.

In my opinion having to do a frequent reset (of any kind) is not a viable solution and is most certainly a horrible user experience.

Thank you for the feedback. I've just looked around the Netgear Gateway and cannot find the place where one is able to REBOOT from the computer. I have been unplugging. My ISP says perhaps the level of my internet service (50 mg) is responsible for the dropped connections. I don't know enough about any of this to know whether that is accurate. He is recommending 100K and thinks that will resolve the issue. Does anyone have knowledge whether this is true?
