C7000V2 Random Reboots

My apologies in advance for the length of this post.

I wish I had been aware of this issue before purchasing this unit (the usual problem of hindsight being 20/20).  The overall reviews on Amazon were good, and when we first set this modem up, there was a much noticeable improvement in performance over our previous Arris SURFboard SBG6900-AC.

But then the random reboots started, sometimes up to three times a day.  Called Xfinity several times, who blamed Netgear, who in turn blamed Xfinity.  It took three calls to Xfinity to finally convince them to send a tech over to check the line since we were picking up a lot of noise.  They replaced the line to the house because of water found in the line.  Thought that might take care of the reboot issue because the noise level was greatly improved.

But no, the reboots started a couple of days later.  Verified the firmware was up to date (V1.03.01).  Checked with Xfininty, who said they had nothing to do with the firmware (typical call center response from them).  I assured them that they (Xfinity) did indeed do the updates.  BTW, the coax cable goes directly to the C7000, no splitters.

Anyway, I called Netgear, a followed all of their suggestions, such as a factory reboot, and manually setting the wireless channels.  I even moved the router to a different location and that seemed to help for a few days, but it all started again.  And yes, there is a year warranty, but you have to go through their tech support and troubleshooting before that can happen, and that costs you $$.

I finally, after several calls, convinced Netgear to send a replacement.  Sure enough, two reboots right from the get go.  Then a couple more later that night.  My old Arris Surfboard, while not having the best performance, never rebooted.  This one performs better overall, but the reboots are irritating.  In addition, the reboots cause the Ring camera to go offline and I have to play with the wireless channels to get them back up and running again.

Sorry to say, I should have taken the support payment and put towards a separate modem and router.  These reboots are unacceptable.  Maybe I should put the non-rebooting Arris back in until I can find a suitable replacement.

  • I wanted to give an update concerning the continual random reboots of my Netgear c7000.  Looks like we solved the problem. Bought a new modem and separate router, neither one of them Netgear,

I called Gearhead and told them our solution and asked for a refund on my subscription since none of their recommendations worked and since I would not be using another Netgear product, the Gearhead subscription was of no value.  They are refunding the cost.  On top of that, Amazon is refunding the cost for the router, even after 6 months.

Since we put in the separate modem and router, we haven't even had a short hiccup.
