C7800 WiFi Dramatically slower than Ethernet

Netgear C7800

hardware version V1.07

firmware V3.01.40

I am using Mediacom for cable & internet - Gig download/50M upload.  WiFi internet is dramatically slower than Ethernet.  Ethernet is getting 850M+ speed; WiFi is getting about 25-30M.  Download is just as dramatic a difference.

I have a WiFi extender that also supports Gig speed and it is having the same issues.  I’ve tested this with the extender off – no difference.

I own this router – when I log onto the Nighthawk app it tells me the firmware is out of date, but I believe Mediacom still pushes updates to stay in sync with their system.

The internet has been an issue since we moved into this house 9 months ago - thus the reason I bought my own router.  Cable does not have a problem (usually) when the WiFi hiccups.  My zoom admin sent me my meeting history & I have unstable voice & video on every meeting - which at the speed I'm paying for should not be the case.

WiFi is now going out briefly multiple times a day (5the day in a row), but Cable is not impacted. It goes out enough to kill the meeting/VOIP phone call and then is back on in about 2-3 minutes.

3 phones

3 personal laptops

3 work laptops

1 iPad

With the WiFi and Ethernet so dramatically different and the Cable not impacted – I’m beginning to think it’s the Netgear C7800 box.  Looking for suggestions/recommendations/fixes.  Mediacom tech support is coming Thurs (today's Monday).  I'm hoping to know what to test to eliminate the C7800 and/or what to point Mediacom to.  Thanks!

Wifi 5Ghz AC will never perform as well as wired ethernet nor see any speeds on the down near 900Mpbs. Depending upon devices used, there design and support, most will max out at around 400-500Mpbs depending on how they connect to the modem and howe the modem/router wifi is configured.

If yoru seeing 30MB then you are probably seeing around what the devices support for Mbps speeds

      I'm seeing 30 Mbps versus 890Mbps - I'd be thrilled with 400-500!

So to confirm, are you seeing 30MB or 30Mpbs? There is a difference...

What devices are you speed testing with?

What are the current wifi settings on the modem?

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
