Cable modem access

I have a cabel modem that is set up on a network and I cannot access the settings to make changes because the settings are in a profile that is locked and we do not have access to (my father passed away and we are unable to get into his profile on the computer). I need to work on the network, but i am unable to access it. I was wondering if I reset the modem will it reset back to factory and allow me to reset up the network or should i just get a new modem?
