Change Password

I have model WNDR4300

Avast Anti-virus reported my NETGEAR 79 router had changed its key to ADMIN.

This has happened without my knowledge or any intervention.

My first question is how can this happen?

My second question is am I supposed to update any software for the Netgear 79?

I have succesfully changed the key by logging in in my Netgear.

After this it seams that my password to my Netgear was updated to the new key.

My third question is if this is standard procedure?

I hope someone has experience with these matters and thank you all for your attention aforehand

  • Have you ever changed the default router password and wifi passphrase? If you haven't you should. That would be one of the first things that should be done when configuring the router for the first time.

In respect to firmware upgrades, you may get an automatic notification of available firmware, or better yet,  go to the Netgear site and check for new firmware. Ensure you read the Release Notes first, when considering a firmware upgrade.

        Hello Kelliehwhite2

If you have forgot the password you will have to factory reset the modem by holding the reset button down on the modem for 10 seconds then it will be admin/password. If you know the current password log into the by going to www.routerlogin.net then go to Advanced-Administration- set password.
