cm1000 modem

I have  the netgear cable modem cm1000 and it is located downstairs, i am located upstairs, i have an extender but it is not working as well as i thought, i need to know how can i make my range better upstairs or do i buy a separate modem for up stairs

    The CM is just a modem only, there is no router or wifi built in. You need a external wifi router to work with the CM modem. NGs R, XR, RAX or Orbi wifi routers would be someting to look at.

       That's a modem, not a (modem+)router. It has no wireless capability,
    hence no "range".  To what is it connected?

       Not a very detailed description of that device, either.

       Buying a (second) _modem_ would probably be a mistake.

     

       It might help if you located and identified all your equipment,
    determined what, exactly, is connected to what, exactly, and then
    revealed some of that information to the people whom you're expecting to
    help you.
