CM500 isn't talking to ASUS RT-AC68R but works with PC

Got a Netgear CM500 installed with Xfinity, it works when connected to my Windows PC and I can access internet (all green LEDs).  I get no Internet access when I connect my ASUS RT-AC68R to it (CM500 is connected to ASUS's Internet/WAN port).  What settings should I have on my ASUS Router? I know the CM500 has no DHCP server.  I have selected Auto IP for the ASUS but how will it get the WAN IP information?  Any help is greatly appricated...

That would seem to absolve the CM500 of blame.

You came to a Netgear forum to ask that question?

Presumably, it'd get it the same way that your (happy) "my Windows
PC" got its.  My guess: DHCP from your ISP.

True, but it seems to provide a good connection to your ISP, and
    _they_ have one.

You might find some relevant information in a widely neglected
    resource:

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTFM

In this case, that'd be the documentation for the router.

It might help if you shut down the CM500 and your router, then
started the CM500, and, when the CM500 looked happy, your router.
