cm600 doesn't stay connected to internet once xbox is turned off, needs reboot every time

my xbox is plugged directly to modem. Once i shut it off and turn it on later there is no internet connection. I have to unplug it, sometimes several times to establish a connection. The same ting happens when i tested my son's computer. This has been happening since the first day I purchased it. Netgear eventually concluded my modem was faulty and warrantied me a new on but the exact same problem persists. I purchased an arris modem and it works perfectly. This is only a test modem and needs to be returned. I have cox cable and I'm not sure if this matters but the firmware on the modem is 1.01.14 but cox approved firmware is 1.01.16. Cox tried to push this firmware to the modem but it didn't take. Any help would be appreciated

Without a (NAT) router?  Is the Xbox the only device which is ever
connected to the modem, or are you trying to connect multiple devices to
    it without a (NAT) router?

       After disconnecting the Xbox?

What, exactly, are you connecting to what, exactly, when, exactly?

I am only using an xbox x directly to the cm600. I tried on an occasion to plug son's computer to see if there was any difference. There wasn't.
I play almost every night. When I turn on the xbox it doesn't have internet access unless I power cycle the modem. The modem is always on and plugged in unless I am power cycling it after turning xbox on. Only a few times in the last 3 months was the xbox connected when I turned it on. My original modem and the new replacement have the same problem. It's not my connection or internet because a artis 6190 stays connected all the time. I just want this thing to work. Cm600
