Configuring Netgear CM1000v2 to Ethernet with Google nest router
Hi all:
I recently upgraded my internet speed to 1.2GB. I have a Google Nest for the router and a Netgear CM 1000v2 for the modem. I also have a five-port ethernet switch. When I use Google Nest and Netgear CM 1000v2 modem, the speed is reduced from 940mbps to 700mbps vs being connected to an ethernet. I am trying to determine what is the best "fix" (if at all) for this issue. Do I need to upgrade my Netgear modem (ie. Netgear Nighthawk) to have more than one port so I can connect directly to the ethernet and a second port connected to the Google Nest router? Would upgrading to Googe Nest Pro resolve this issue? Or is there even a solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your CM1000v2 has a single Ethernet output port that is rated at 1 Gbps. Regardless of what throughput tier you purchase from your ISP, under real life conditions the most you can ever get out of that port is around 940 Mbps.
The Google Nest router, for most model numbers, has an Ethernet input port rated at 1 Gbps. It also has a single Ethernet output port rated at 1 Gbps. If your five-port switch is rated at 1 Gbps, you can connect it to the output of the router and have four Ethernet ports that will support around 900 Mbps combined total throughput.
I presume the 700 Mbps throughput you mentioned is via Wi-Fi. If that is the case, call it a good day.

IF you want to see speeds past 1Gb, then you'll need both a modem AND wifi router that has WAN and LAN ports that support 2.5Gb or higher.
