Connecting CAX80 to AT&T Mobile Hotspot?

Hello, all!

I am running into an issue here.. where I live has absolutely 0 cable internet providers. I am way out in the middle of a national forest and I either have Hughes Net (garbage) or I have an AT&T Mobile Hotpspot. I choose the AT&T Movile Hotspot. It has unlimited data, so that's not an issue.

I actually have 2 Netgear AT&T Mobile Hotspots.

1, Netgear MR1100 (not as functional stand-alone, but has ethernet port)

2, Netgear AirCard 797 (functions better but no ethernet port)

#1 has an ethernet port. #2 does not.

I was told I can "bridge" my mobile hotspot to my newNetgear Nighthawk AX8 Wifi Cable Modem Router CAX80 to use the new CAX80 as the router for my house. I also have a Netgear AX1800 Mesh Extender I plan on connecting to it as well once I can get this set up, but that's for another time.

When I try connecting my hotspot to my CAX80 via direct ethernet cable, I then turn on the CAX80 and it starts it "up to 10 minute" boot-up process indicate in the manual. You are supposed to have it connected to a coax cable for this part, but that is not an option for me. As such, it never finishes it's boot-up process and just keeps cycling through it. I can temporarily connect to the internet through it, but it lasts perhaps 30 seconds until the cycle kicks me off the internet again. This seems to prove that the CAX80 is indeed capable of using the mobile hotspot to provide internet, but I need a way to force it through the original boot-up process.

I called support and was told that the two are not compatible and it is a lost cause. Perhaps they are right. But then how can I use the CAX80 for internet when it's connected to the hotspot - even if only for 30 seconds?

So how can I connect these so that I am using internet provided through my mobile hotspot to my CAX80, which would then supply the whole house?

I am hoping and praying someone here is by far more knowledgable than I in this department. Any help that can be given would be greatly appreciated, truly.

    Hi,

In my understanding (far away from your market, here we can use only provider supplied cable modem/routers), the CAX80 is a pure Cable device with a coax cable WAN, and no alternate WAN support using an Ethernet port.

Lack of a cable Internet connection, I fear the device is wrong for your use case. Let's see if somebody from Netgear is chiming back here. Dustin_V  - you might also want to move this thread to the "Orbi With Built-In Cable Modem" community section.

As mentioned already, the CAX80 is a cable modem device and thus requires the use of a cable coax ISP service to use it. It can't be connected to any other ISP modem service.
