factory reset not working

so i forgot my router login password so i decided to factory reset it and did exactly like instructions say i held the button for 7 seconds and sometimes even longer (tried reseting 3 times) and every single time the default admin/password doesnt work... its like after the reset my router automatically restores my previous configurations because then all my devices reconnect to the wifi as well. i have a vpn and dont know if that somehow is affecting it? i have the c3700 N600

      Did the power LED flash?

Unplug it and push reset for 15 seconds.

Call your ISP and tell them you forgot your password

  • Yes it did and I even unplugged did every solution I could find.. I have access to internet so not sure what my isp can do for me it's the fact I want to update my firmware but can't unless I can log into the router

      You're welcome,

Is there a new firmware to update the c3700 to, I couldn't find one. What makes you think there is one.

I believe if firmware is updated it's done by the ISP.

Call them and have them reset the Password for you.

  • The router was not provided by my isp so there is nothing they can do.... I don't know if there is an update it's been almost 2 years since I've logged my router in so I wanted to check but can't because for some reason reset is dysfunctional

Cable Modems are controlled by the ISP irregardless of who provides it or who owns it.
