I connected online to the Xfinity support line again. I ended up doing a soft reboot. I reset the button on top rear of the router. the WiFi works fine now. But since Xfinity was guiding me, the question comes up "did they do some type of reset or parameter change on the router remotely?".

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
How is the wifi radios configured on the gateway?
Is Smart Connect enabled?
Is Protection Engine enabled?
ISPs can only effect the modem side of the gateway.
