I ended up getting a CAT6 STP cable and an Xfinity Gateway in bridge mode.

Internet search turns up plenty of references that Cat5e cable is capable of 1Gbps data rate, such as this one:

The Ethernet cable connecting ISP modem and customer router is not 100 meters in length. (more like 2 meters)
There is nothing wrong about installing a Cat6 cable. Swapping cables is one of the most frequently suggested troubleshooting steps.
