Model R7800 and a aftermarket directional antenna.

Does the wifi signal exit the C3000 360 degrees around the router?  Or, does the signal go farther from the front, rear or sides of the router. (using 2.4 Mhz). I'm trying to position the router so I get maximum range to a certain part of my house.  Thanks!

    Hello Porchsitter

Yes it should be 360 around the router but you may want to adjust the wireless channels in the wireless settings to get the best signal in the house. There are apps for phones to help find the best possible channel. We have one on Android called Netgear wifi analytics.

  • Then you need some experiment to do. Don't position too close to a wall. From present position start out turning router upto 90 deg. in increment measuring signal level. Then play with antenna stick tilp, bend, etc. Vertical antenna supposes to radiate 360 deg. on theory but in reality the radiation pattern distorts caused by many factors. Also radiation angle. Antenna engineering is very complex empirical stuff. When you talk about gain on an antenna it comes with radiatio. 1 is perfect). If SWR is high it can even damage the radio or cause poor erp wasting RF energy as heat.

Generally good router location in a house is higher, central location.
