Netgear 56 and 5G

Hi

We recently switched to Xfinity for internet only. The Netgear CM500 cable modem works great! No connection problems, etc.  There is one thing that does not work and I'd like to know why and what can be done...if anything.

I have an iPhone 6+ and an iPad Air 2.. My iphone picks up Netgear 56-5G. My ipad picks up Netgear 56.  This is ok except certain features do not work between iphone and ipad because they are on two different frequencies. If I try Netgear 56 for my iphone, the password is not accepted. If I try to use Netgeart 56-5G on my iPad, the password is not accepted. How do I get both iphone and ipad to use same frequency?

Much thanks for any help.

Model: CM500 High Speed Cable Modem

  • i am going to accept all answers as solution. I was able to put all devices together because, God bless him, my husband gave me wrong password! So now my phone and ipad are on same frequency! Thanks so much!

  • The NETGEAR CM500 High Speed Cable Modem provides a connection to high-speed cable Internet with speeds up to 680 Mbps‡ . It is CableLabs® certified DOCSIS® 3.0 that is 16X faster than 2.0 devices. A Gigabit Ethernet port provides faster access and downloads.  That's the modem, what are you using for a router?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I know the specs for our CM500, but my question is about separate frequencies used with my iphone and ipad. Router is Netgear  AC1750  I guess my question is - is there anyway, I can get my iphone and ipad to use same frequency? As stated, my iPad wants to only use Netgear 56 while my iphone wants to use Netgear 56-5G. When I try to get each one to match the other, the password won't go through. Confusing, I know.

OK, so you do have a router.. Here's a link to your router:  http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/R6700/R6700_UM_22July2014.pdf

Make sure the wireless modes are set to max for  2.4 GHz, Up to 450 Mbps is the default setting. Up to 1300 Mbps. Don't leave 2.4ghz channel at auto - pick a channel (1,6,or 11).

Ensure WMM is enabled Page 55.

You may have to upgrade the firmware, if you have not already. If you have upgraded the router's firmware, ensure you reset the router to factory default after upgrading firmware.

Ensure that you change the default login and wifi passphrases.
