Netgear C7000 and A7000 seem to have poor real world speeds
I switched ISP's from ATT (50 Mbps) to Spectrum (400+ Mbps) and I purchased the C7000v2 Netgear gateway to avoid the ISP rental fees. With ATT's provided gateway, down speed was consistently around 50 Mbps over wifi so no complaints. As soon as I connect the C7000 with Specturm and perform a speed test over wifi, the speed tests were inconsistent and ranging from 30 Mbps to 230 Mbps. Now I don't expect hardwired speeds over wifi but I do expect decent and consistent downspeed so 30Mbps one day and nearly 200 Mbps the next is not consistent. I went through various 5G channel changes with no luck and I almost thought it could be an ISP problem but my hardwired speeds were always over 400 Mbps. After doing some research, I ended up purchasing a separate router and went with the ASUS RT-AX58U. Came in, connected up, and tested. Down speed still inconsistent but better with a range between 50 Mbps to 240 Mbps. I almost concluded that it was just wifi interference and this was normal until I performed a speed test with my Iphone over wifi. It reported over 400 Mbps down speed so it appears that there's a problem with my personal computer which, as a matter of fact, uses a Netgear A7000 wifi USB adapter. In my home, I have my personal desktop computer, two laptops, two Iphones, two tablets, the TV, and a Nest using wifi. See the list of pre and post ASUS router downspeeds and tell me that there's not a problem with Netgear products (particularly the Nighthawk line):
Pre ASUS router down speed over wifi-
Desktop computer: Inconsistent down speed from day one of 30Mbps to about 230 Mbps
Iphone: Inconsistent down speed of 30 Mbps to about 200 Mbps
Post ASUS router down speed over wifi-
Desktop computer (with Netgear A7000 wifi USB adaptor): Inconsistent down speed of 50 Mbps to about 250 Mbps
Iphone (both phones): Consistently over 400 Mbps (ISP speed)
Laptop 1 (An Hp): Consistently over 400 Mbps (ISP speed)
Laptop 2 (An ASUS Strix): Consistently close to 400 Mbps
I can understand a defective product every once in a while but two products both exhibiting similiar transmission problems is not a coincedence and either Netgear has a software or manufacturing issue or they pushed out a product line that just does not work. As the end user, I'm disappointed to say the least and I will assure you that I will never purchase another Netgear product.

The A7000 USB WiFi adaptor now seems to be working after uninstalling all the WAN miniport network adaptors in the Device Manager and having them automatically reinstall upon reboot. 5GHz WiFi download speed from my desktop PC using the adaptor is now reporting a solid 480Mbps transfer rate which is excellent (Spectrum 400+ Mbps ISP). I'll periodically monitor the performance and replace it with an adaptor from a different vendor if it starts to exhibit transfer issues again. The C7000v2 gateway is still a no go and it's being used as a modem only and I think the router portion is junk.

"I can understand a defective product every once in a while but two products both exhibiting similiar transmission problems is not a coincedence and either Netgear has a software or manufacturing issue or they pushed out a product line that just does not work. " If your seeing this one two difrerent system, it doesn't mean the products maybe defective, it may be a envrionment or noisy or congested wifi environment which can cause wifi problems.
