Netgear C7100v internet drops and now out of warranty

Here is my story, tell me what you think:

Bought this as compatable modem for Xfinity,k in October 2019. Started using it in earnest in December 2019. Worked well other than occasional loss of internet solved by resetting router. Not very bothersome as not often. then as time went by was more often.

Contacted Netgear support after tired of it. But support only for 90 days after product purchase, let us sell you a support agreement and then we can help you. (first grumble but forked over the money, I needed it to work)

They looked into it and said my signal was too weak, call Xfinity. This is the only time they were at least partially correct. The line from the box was replaced and signal now excellent but the disconnections still occurred and then started more often.

Second Support contact, still before hardware warranty ran out, tech support was a joke. He ran some ping floods and changed some IP settings from dynamic to static ip addresses on some of the attached systems. I knew this would not help but agreed to wait and see. It did not help but being busy, I delayed calling then though I made them aware by resonding to the ticket that it was still an issue.

Then today it died again. Took several screen shots and got on tech support once more. This time asked them to clearly explain the why of each setting they were changing and she did just that. I took notes. She then dropped the bombshell of "if this does not work, then the router will need to be replaced. However, it is no longer under warranty" so cannot be replaced. You will have to buy another. The settings she changed I googled later and found out made things worse, not better. After the changes, the WiFi was throttled to the point I could not do my virtual appointments as it kept disconnecting and dropping signal. At lunch, I changed all the settings back and this was then stable enough to finish my day. So called tech support with my story. My opinion is that the router has been trouble from way before the warranty ran out and tech support has been unable to correct the problem. In my opinion, they should still replace the router. At this point, I worry a replacement would still be a lemon so planning to change to the Arris T25 and never buy Netgear products again.

What do you think?

  • I have the same problem where internet keeps dropping throughout the day! Any solutions to this? I have Comcast internet with Blast speeds.
