NETGEAR N300 Wi-Fi DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem Router (C3000) sees Seagate backup HD but won't transfer

V1.01.11 firmware, OS is Windows 10

I bought the Netgear N300 Wifi Cable Modem. Except for the Seagate external hard drive (Seagate Backup Plus 5TB Desktop External Hard Drive with 200GB of Cloud Storage & Mobile Device Backup USB 3.0 (STDT5000100)), all my devices hook up to it no problem. However:

1.) When I hood up the Seagate external HD, the Netgear genie sees it but says that the drive has 0 bytes available.

2.) Therefore I can't back up using the WIndows 10 backup program but

3.) I can "manually" drag files from my PC to the Seagate HD. (The PC is connected to the cable modem router via wifi.

4.) When I connect the Seagate HD with an USB cable to the PC, the back up works.

This is frustating because I want to use the Seagate HD as a backup for some of my devices and I want the devices to be able to send their data throuth the Netgear router.

Can anyone help me? It seems key that Netgear genie sees the Seagate HD but thinks it has no room.

      Hello soltup1

Yes I believe that the C3000 can not see drives larger than 4tb.

Yes,  I went out and bought a Seagate Backup Plus 4TB desktop external hard drive.

The Netgear Modem Router still does not see the external HD. Both my PC and my laptop see this 4T HD when I connect them directly to it, but they cannot see it through the wifi/router.

I've read all over the net about this and have come to the conclustion that this "feature" doesn't work on thsi Netgear device, or at the very least doesn't work reliably.

But if anyone else has a soltution or even a a reasonable troubleshooting procedure, I'd appreciate it.
