Night Hawk C7800 2.4GHz not working but 5GHz is fine

I've had this modem/router combo for a few months now.  All has been well until a few weeks ago when we started getting messages from our camera system that it was offline, or Alexa wasn't responding, or the Nest thermostat was offline.  The one thing all these had in common is they were using the 2.4GHz channel.  Since then I've used a signal analyzer to see that the 2.4GHz channel is disconnecting at certian intervals.  Also I'm getting between 50 and 130 Mbs where I used to get over 300 Mbs.

After researching I see that the cable provider (Cox) has to push out the firmware updates.  So, I checked your update table which says the version for this model should be V3.01.36.  However, when I login to the admin portion the version shows V3.01.38.  Has Cox pushed out a beta that isn't working on the 2GHz channel?

5GHz contines to work perfectly.  No disconnection and consistenly above 330 Mbs via wireless.

  • No, V3.01.38 was pushed out by Cox over a year ago .... It has lots of bugs and the Netgear support people have acknowledged there are issues. As a matter of fact, late last spring I was told the bug I identified would be corrected in the next release however there has been no V3. 01.39 or whatever the next firmware version will be. Netgear's firmware page seems to be incorrect. Their support is nothing short of pitiful.

Thanks for the reply.  I agree.  I see over and over and over issues with Netgear and the 2.4GHz channel not working right.  Clearly I may have made a mistake going with Netgear.  I should have done a deeper dive.

What I can't understand is why it worked for over 2 months, then all of the sudden started having these issues.  Nothing changed on my side.
