You can always use a mesh extender and it'll work. If you're needing more than 1 extender, i'd recommend running a full mesh system like orbi though. Mesh extenders work great until you need mutliple ones and then you can run into issues. not everyone has them but it happens often enough I recommend Orbi versus multiple mesh extenders. 

You can put the C7000 in modem only mode and run a setup like Orbi.

Or even run the C7000 in modem and router mode and Orbin in Access point mode. 

You can connect any Orbi MESH system to your modem. Just will need to bridge or configure the modem for mode only mode.
