Nighthawk cm1100 and Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router
I bought a new computer (dell desktop) and a new modem (Netgear Nighthawk CM1100). Setting everything up like a "plug and play" like my previous HP desktop. Hooked up modem, plugged it into my Netgear N600 router, plugged into my computer. Nothing. Ok, found out I needed to contact my internet provider to get modem happy, so called Comcast - they did their thing - viola! I had internet - IF I CONNECTED THE MODEM STRAIGHT INTO THE COMPUTER - argh! I needed the router happy and active, but nothing we did worked. They told me to contact Netgear - which I did yesterday morning - after attempting to speak with a representative for nearly 45 minutes and her telling me multiple times to type something into my phone (which will not work at home without the wi-fi router active), she told me she'd call me back in 20 minutes. I told her I couldn't wait a whole lot longer than that because I had to start getting ready for work - after extending my waiting time to another 15 minutes I gave up and got ready for work and still no return phone call. Bottom line - I can't get the router to work with my new modem for some reason - all the lights come on, but the one that looks like a globe remains stubbornly orange. Can anybody help me in simple terms? Thanks

One thing to try.
The CM1100 has 2x ethernet ports. but comcast only supports 1 public IP address. Meaning only 1 thing can be connected to it.
If you connected your computer and it worked, then try this.
disconnect everything from both modem and router.
Then power them both off for 2 minutes.
reconnect coax to the modem, then power it on and wait 2 minutes.
then connect the router to the modem and power the router on.
Wait 2 minutes.
then try setup/using the router.
