Not able to connect router so I can use desktop & wifi

HELP...We are not able to connect the router to work for wifi & desktop. The instructions are vague that came with router. Any guidance appreciated.

    What is the model of the router you are trying to use? and can you be a little more specific with the issue are you saying when you try to use both the wifi and the LAN connection they stop working?
