Old Modem Donation Question

I have an old NetgearCMD31T cable modem that I want to give away.  I've been told to make sure the IP address is removed from the modem.  How do I do that?

Thanks in advance for all feedback.

  • You don't. There is no IP address ON the modem until it's connected with an ISP service. So when it's turned off and disconnected, the IP address doesn't remain. The ISP maintains IP addressing for modems connected to there system. IP addresses on modems are temporary and not permanent.

       By whom?

I wouldn't expect it to matter much, and documentation on that model
is sparse, but you should be able to reset the settings on the thing by
pressing its (recessed) Reset button for about ten seconds; the LED
indicators should do something unusual.  The picture in the Data Sheet
shows a suspicious spot next to the Ethernet port.  I'd poke there.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get what you can find?
