Prosafe Plus Switches/VLAN Config
I am running a using a JGS516PE - 16-Port Gigabit ProSAFE Plus Switch with POE. I have it set up at a satellite office.
The setup consists of a internet modem to watchguard router to the switch.
I want to setup a voice vlan on the router. 192.168.25.0. VLAN 20.
One question is can I call it 20 or do I need to use a single digit. The second question is.
So here is my scenerio. I have phones and computers sharing the same lan cable. It goes from switch to phone to computer.
What is my configuration of the ports so that the switch will route the phone traffic to VLAN 20 and keep the DAta traffic on VLAN 10.
How do I set this up.

- There should be no problem using VLAN 20 for phone traffic.
If your phones and computers can tag their own traffic, then you'll simply set up each switch as a trunk. If they can't tag their traffic, then you'll need to put the phones and computers on separate cables, then use the switch to tag each port.
You could add a small managed switch for each phone/computer pair, then trunk it up to the main switch. But this would be expensive and not very practical.
