I just read this discussion. Am I to understand this product is un-upgradeable?
I just got off the phone with Netgear who told me ISP had to update it. Then I called Spectrum who said they can't update it and to call back and see if I could get a more knowledgeable Netgear agent. I called Netgear and got disconnected so I decided to check this forum.
Like, is this real?
A product that just can't be updated?

That is correct, C and CM series cable modems are not FW updatable by users. ONLY the ISPs can update them.
Some ISPs won't update user owned modems. Up to the ISP to update users owned modems. Some will, some won't.The DOCSIS and ISP sets this policy.

A product that just can't be updated?
Its why we rarely recommend modem/router combo devices.
Netgear might release firmware for them but the ISP has to certify them and it costs the ISP $. so they rarely do it.
