setup new network HW while not disrupting existing network connections

I have a Netgear CM1200 connected to a Netgear RAX120 wireless router. I am replacing the router with a Protectli FW4B appliance running PFsense and feeding an 8 port Ubiquiti switch. In order to setup the Protectli I need to connect it to my CM1200 modem. If I plug a cable into one of the 3 empty RJ45s on the CM1200, will that connection interrupt the signal going to my Netgear RAX120? I'd like to set this up while keeping my current network up and running.

  • The WAN Ports on the CM modem are for ISP assigned WAN IP addresses. Most ISP don't support more than one WAN IP service address to a home. The CM modem does not have a router built in. Modem only.

To connect a new router or firewall appliance device to the CM modem, reboot the modem from the modems web page, when the front LEDs turn OFF, disconnect the old router and reconnect the new device to WAN port #1. The modem will come to ready and the new device should get internet services.
