Slow WIFI Speeds - Cox Gigablast

Hello,

I have C7800 / Cox ISP / Gigablast plan (rated for 940 MBPS).

I routinely get no more than 70 - 80 MBPS on the 2.4 channel and no more than 100 - 110 MBPS on the 5G. Cox has stated that average speeds should be in the 600 - 800 MBPS range.

Cox has come to my location and checked my and it's pushing over 1 GBPS on the line.

After absolutely no help from the Netgear tech support team (purchased this modem/router in March 2020 so 90 day "free" tech support is expired), I've done a lot of reading and watching and I'm thinking it's likely the firmware?

My plan was to download old(er) firmware to see if that is the culprit to my slow speed issue. But, there is no firmware versions available on the Netgear support site and all firmware updates are done automatically... Basically the user has no control of firmware for this model.

Is there any fix for this or do I just continue to have Netgear hold my device hostage until I pay for the Service Plan and let them fix it?

Any help would be appreciated.

My current firmware version is V3.01.40

Netgear website says that the latest Cox approved firmware version is V3.01.38

What wireless device are you using?

Most 5Ghz AC mode devices max out at 400-500Mpbs depending on designe and support of the device. You'll never see anything near 800-900Mpbs on wireless 5Ghz AC. Ethernet you should.

      Thanks for your reply.

I have speed tested on multiple mobile devices... iPhones, iPads, etc. And, from multiple locations throughout my home.

I have also tested on my PC.

I know that I'll never get anywhere near 900 MBPS on WIFI.

But, I feel that WIFI speeds of 400 - 500 MBPS is not too much to ask for consistently based on my ISP plan and this $400 device that is only 6 months old.

      I'm currently never getting more than 70 - 80 MBPS on 2.4 channel and 100 - 110 on the 5G channel.

Wired speeds are just as bad as 2.4 channel or even worse.

What is the connection rates your seeing with one of your wifi devices. For Apple or Android, load up WiFi sweetspots app. Then connect to the 2.4Ghz radio then check. Then connect to the 5Ghz radio then check the app.

        Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 26 thru 48 or 149 thru 161 channel on 5Ghz.
