Trying to set a large subnet of 192.168.0.1/255.255.0.0

The web UI of my NETGEAR C6300 only allows 255.255.255.0 subnet mask.

I'd like to set it to 255.255.0.0 so that I can test some simulations with more than 255 IP addresses.

I'm currently using 192.168.0.1/24

I tried adding some static addresses at 192.168.1.1/24 but my PC was not able to Ping them successfully.

I thought the easiest solution was to just set the router to 192.168.0.1/16, but I can't set it to this in the Web UI of the C6300.

Anyone have some suggestions?

Thanks,

Larry

  • Netgear probably has hardcoded the prefix length to /24 or longer.  You can switch your PC to a static IP address and change its subnet mask to /16.
