Two 2.4ghz signals
I am having issues with connectivity to my 2.4ghz signal. I have changed to unused channels, but am still having the issues. I have used a wifi sniffing app to determine that the router is broad...
Just to follow up, i stil cannot find why there are two signals. I ended up purchasing an AP (NON-NETGEAR!) and ran a new cat6 from my router to it; i'm only using the AP to connect to my chromecast and TV.
What i've learned is NEVER buy a netgear anything; zero tech support, and shotty hardware. I guess this is what i get for trying to save a few $$'s on a router. With the added cost of the AP i should have just purchased a good wifi router to start with. Lesson learned.
Guest network? Did you set up the guest network?
I disabled the guest and 5ghz radios just to be sure.

You meant two identical SSID? Then are you using same SSID between router and AP?
No, prior to installing the additional AP i was showing 2 different wireless signals (with 2 different mac's) on the same channel. One had the SSID that i configured on the router, and the other did not have an SSID.
I know it is coming from the router because as soon as i change the wifi channel, the 'ghost signal' follows the configured SSID. It seems like the 'ghost signal' was causing interference issues with my configured SSID, which was causing my chromecast to skip.
Since i've installed the new AP (NON-NETGEAR), and configured it to broadcast on a different channel i have had zero issues.
Depending on how things go over the next few weeks, i might disable the wifi completely on the netgear router and only use it as a standalone router; then use my newly purchased AP for all wifi connections.
Yes, i know this is quite the workaround bandaid, but it's the only way to get good quality signal. Lesson learned about netgear products.
