5 ghz has shorter range than 2.4 ghz.
But I suspect the problem is that your Roku doesn't support 5 ghz. Several models are 2.4 ghz only. So look up the data sheet on the model you have.

If you are using a Roku streamer (as opposed to the Roku app on a smart TV), then there are several models that are 2.4 ghz only. These are generally ones that only support 1080p (not 4K). Roku LE, Roku Express models below 3960, Roku Premiere 3290. And other older models.
