upgrading CM500 firmware if ISP won't do it?

I have a Netgear CM500 modem.  After logging into it, I discovered it's on V1.01.04 but it should be at V1.01.12.  I spoke to my ISP (it's called WOW!) and they said that because it's my modem, they can't/won't update the firmware, and I see no way to do it from the modem interface (the Netgear documentation says only the ISP can do it).  Am I just permanently marooned at this old version?

IF your with and ISP that doesn't update FW for user owned modems, then unfortunately you are stuck. Cable ISPs handle FW updates for cable modems user owned or other wise. Some will some will not.

Is there a problem with the modem? If not, then there isn't any reason to update if the modem is working.

No, there's nothing wrong, but I like to stay current with updates, in part because some of them may be security related.

For your ISP, you'll need to run with whats loaded. You'll be fine.
