upstream speed cut in half cm500
Hello. I'm new to the forum, and I'm not a super tech person, so please bear with me. I did search to try to find an answer to my problem before posting, but it left me somewhat confused.
Last year I bought the cm500 cable modem so I could stop paying comcast monthly rental fees. No problems to speak of, and I'm not positive my problem is modem related, but lately I've been having trouble with my ooma telo having horrible sound issues. I've had my telo for about 5 years, and I love it. I called them and they told me the ooma works on upstream speed vs downstream, so I checked my speed. Usually my upstream speed is around 12mbps, now it's less than 5 and even 4 (currently). I called comcast and they came and ran new lines outside my house two days ago, put in a new switch box, etc. He said the inside line looked fine so he didn't replace it, but my upstream speed is still below 5 (my download speed is fine). He suggested checking to see if I needed a firmware update. Nowhere could I find what the newest firmware update is for this model, but it looks like I'm running V1.01.05, and from what I can tell this is what it should be. (help?)
Also, from reading the forum, several people said that firmware updates have to be "pushed" from the isp. I called the guy back who installed my new lines and he checked, and told me that the firmware was proprietary and updates had to come from netgear. So, I'm at a loss. If I need to do it myself, where do I find the newest update? Because doing a search for firmware/software downloads turned up nothing.
Also, could the problem be something else? I've been searching for two days and found nothing else as to what the problem could be.
Thanks bunches.

Hello Jazzycat
With cable modems all firmware is pushed out by the ISP we provide the ISP the firmware they verify it make any changes they need to and push it out. What should your upload speed be at?

Hello Darren. Thanks for answering.
My upstream speed has always been over 10, typically somewhere between 11 and 12. The Comcast tech guy came by again two days ago and ran another new cable for me, this time inside going to my modem, and yet my speed is still abysmal. It's less than 4mbps. I don't understand what the heck is going on.
If it's true that it's up to the isp to push through any new firmware updates, what should I say to them when I call again? Also, could something else be causing this? Am I runnning the most up to date version for the cm500? (The version is V1.01.05, and from what I can tell perusing this site that is the most current update.)
I'm wondering if Hurricane Matthew did some damage to one of their stations and they (Comcast) aren't aware of it, because this only happened after that storm came blowing through here, and it did a ton of damage to other things. The destruction was unbeleivable. Anyway. Thanks so much for trying to help me. Any more information is greatly appreciated. :)
