WIFI Speeds C7800 capping out around 200mbps
Hello,
I recently purchased the Nighthawk X4S-AC3200 cable modem router from Amazon.com as an upgrade for my xfinity internet service. I am subscribed to the 1000mbps plan. I understand that wifi speed will never be as fast as ethernet connection, however I expected to get more speed over wifi and am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions or tips to make sure I'm getting the most out of my purchase.
I have connected directly to the router via ethernet cable and tested between 850 to 1000mbps.
I currently have my PC, PS4 and Phone connected to the 5ghz connection. Using speakeasy, comcast and any other speed test website I could find online I have got between 150 and 205 top speed. I have tried changing channles to ones not being used by other networks around me and called Netgear support who only had that one suggestion for me after nearly an hour on the phone.
My PC network card is an Intel Dual Band wireless - AC 3165, when I looked this up it says its max speeds is around 400mbps. I purchased a wireless dongle adapter from amazon that has also not helped.

Any suggerstions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The intel AC3165 is a 1x1 antenna solution. Its max connection speed is 433mbps. And like duckware said, thats the PHY speed. It'll never hit that. Realistic speeds based on PHY are around 50%. So hitting 200 is roughly in line with whats expected from that wifi card.
What speeds did you hit with your USB wifi card? Is it plugged into a usb 3.0 port or usb 2.0 port on your pc?

I have it plugged into a blue 3.0 USB port. I deactivated my intel card and am still only getting around 200, 210 being tops a couple times. It shows 100 percent signal strength. From what I can find I have the latest firmware update installed on the router, even at the 50 percent expectation wouldn't you think I should be seeing faster speeds thru the USB?
